Weekly Workouts and Fall Favorites

The weeks are beginning to fly by for me. I swear it was just Monday, but nope! It’s already the weekend. Classes have been going well and I’ve been trying to get some work done so I can commit to studying for my certification exam. Coming up in just about a month I have to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam in order to graduate from my Master’s program. The exam happens to fall right in the middle of midterms, so I am trying to work ahead in my classes and get things done. 

Workouts this week have once again been squeezed in between my classes. 

  • Monday: 10 min row + 10 min incline walk + Back + Abs
  • Tuesday: 10 min run + Arms
  • Wednesday: Yoga
  • Thursday: 10 min run + Chest + 10 min incline walk
  • Saturday: 12 min Stairmill + Legs

After spending some time at the gym this morning, Mike and I did some grocery shopping for the week. I found one of my favorite fall treats that I previously mentioned.

Halloween Oreos! I already tasted them and they, of course, were delicious. It’s something about that orange color that makes them taste even better. Another great Fall find was this huge bag of Pumpkin Spice coffee from Target.

It’s the perfect amount of pumpkin flavor and it makes me feel like Fall is just around the corner, even though it’s still 90 degrees here in Florida. 

The rest of the day is going to be spent working on a paper and watching some college football. Mike volunteered to make us spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, so I get to enjoy the night off! Time to put the feet up and relax!

Puppy Overload

I promise, I’m alive! This week has been extremely busy for me. I’ve been doing health screenings with my internship all week so that has meant a combination of early mornings and late evenings. Yikes! The good news?… I have Friday off! Woohoo! So what exactly have I been doing with all of my time you might wonder.

Putting the finishing touches on this bullentin board that hangs in the Wellness Center for everyone to see. I must admit, I’m pretty proud of it. I also created a educational flier that is posted in various locations around the building as well.

In my spare time I’ve been playing with puppies. Not really, but I did get to visit some friendly pooches today. We completed a health screening at the local Animal Serivces branch and decided to walk through the kennels to see the dogs. These little Dachshund pups were so cute I just had to snap a picture. 

And when I’m not interning or playing with pups, I’ve been car shopping. I had to say goodbye to my car over the weekend.

I’ve had this beauty since I was 16 and I sure will miss her. She lasted longer than we thought she would. And now I get to experince car salesmen for the first time. I’m really not finding the joy in car shopping. Hopefully it gets better!

S’mores and Homework

What a busy week it’s been so far! It’s been tough getting back into a routine of waking up early and getting out of the house. Chipper is definitely not a fan of these early wake up calls. The past few days of my internship have been going well. I’m in the process of perfecting taking blood pressure and administering cholesterol screenings. By Friday I am hoping to feel confident enough to be able to do a health screening all on my own. 

I’ve been bringing my gym bag with me to my internship, so the past two days I’ve been able to fit in a workout before heading home for the day. It’s extremely convienent working in a facility that has a gym. 

Last night we had our meatless meal for the week. My mom prepared some fish tacos. This was my first time ever having fish tacos and I am officially a fan. They were so light and yummy. We paired the tacos with a little brown rice topped with cilantro.

After dinner I was in need of a little sweet treat so I made a s’more in the oven. Instead of using chocolate I spread some Nutella on one of the graham crackers. The result… pure deliciousness. The perfect summer sweet treat and I didn’t have to sweat by a camp fire.

I have a little “homework” to do for my internship this afternoon. Part of my role in administering the health screenings is also providing some health coaching. I have some information regarding blood pressure and cholesterol to look over so I can be sure to suggest the proper techniques to improve overall health. 

Internship Day 1

For the remainder of the summer I am going to be interning at a location that provides wellness screenings to local groups and businesses. I am going to gain experience with different health screenings and also get the chance to present health education materials as part of the worksite wellness program. This worksite wellness program is just a segment of a larger wellness entity. I am hoping that over the course of the next 7 weeks I will also get a chance to work in the fitness and cardio pulmonary rehab areas. Might as well get as much as experience as I can!

My time spent at my internship today was quick, full of paperwork and touring the facility. Tomorrow I will be heading out on my first health screening. I am excited for the next couple of months and know that I will be learning and gaining skills that I will be able to use in my future career. 

A perk of my internship is that I get to use their fitness facilities free of charge. I am hoping to get into a routine of bringing my gym bag with me and fitting in a workout once I’ve completed my hours for the day. I want to make sure I maintain a good work/life balance. 

Up next for the day is a trip to the dog park to get some exercise for Chipper and then I need to worry about getting some exercise myself!
